About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a full-time paraeducator at Onalaska Elementary. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to provide assistance to students with behavioral challenges, fostering a positive learning environment. This role is essential in promoting the social, emotional, and academic development of students, ensuring they can thrive in their educational setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in education, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, particularly those with behavioral or special needs, is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of child development and effective behavioral management techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, employing problem-solving skills to address behavioral issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and the ability to use educational technology effectively.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Must pass background checks and meet any other state or district requirements for paraeducators.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students with behavioral challenges.
  • Monitor student behavior in the classroom and during transitions, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Facilitate small group and one-on-one instruction to reinforce academic concepts and behavioral skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to develop and implement strategies that promote positive behavior and social skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior incidents, and interventions used.
  • Support students during lunch, recess, and other non-classroom activities to ensure a safe and positive environment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to behavioral support and education.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and behavioral concerns.
  • Assist in creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that fosters respect and understanding among all students.
