About The Position

The assistant principal is responsible for supporting the vision to achieve and sustain high levels of student achievement. The assistant principal will collaborate with the school principal in the development, implementation and evaluation of instructional best practices. The assistant principal will also provide organizational support to ensure efficient school operations.

Requirements

  • MA/MS degree in School Administration preferred or MA/MS degree in leadership and/or behavioral studies
  • valid Oklahoma teaching and current secondary administrative certificate.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
  • additional leadership experience in either a district or building site role preferred.
  • Computer literate
  • excellent written and oral communication ability
  • strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education
  • expertise in the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common academic journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to district leaders, public groups, and/or boards of education.
  • Ability to apply intermediate mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public

Responsibilities

  • Assist the school principal in serving as an instructional leader of the building staff to achieve and sustain high levels of student learning and growth.
  • Observe teachers' classroom management, instructional practice, professional development pursuits, interpersonal and leadership skills, while identifying high and low effectiveness performers, and provide clear and actionable feedback, resources, and support.
  • Assist the school principal in leading the improvement of student achievement by implementing the TLE for teacher observation. May also evaluate support staff personnel.
  • Collaborate with the principal to provide ongoing professional development for staff, based on an analysis of feeder school/ assigned building data, best practices and instructional research.
  • Model and promote the continuous use of data to inform practice and drive decision making and instruction.
  • Work with the counselors, teachers, students and parents in preparing learning plans for students.
  • Work with the principal, teachers and staff in the development and implemenation of the core components of the school's curriculum.
  • Assist in the day to day operations of the school, including, but not limited to reports, discipline, facilities, conferring with students and/or parents, and scheduling standardized testing.
  • Participate in personal development activities in order to acquire new skills, futher develop instructional leadership expertise and expand knowledge of practices that accelerate student learning.
  • Assist in coordination and implementation of parental and community engagement strategies.
  • Use effective, postive interpersonal communication skills.
  • Other duties as assigned by principal and/or district personnel.
  • Help develop policies and organizational procedures to implement the instructional program; provide harmonious staff relations; secure a safe physical environment for pupils and staff; secure wholesome school community organizations which work within the school.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all records of attendance, grades, transcripts, reports, etc. are completed and filed in a consistent manner with District, State, and Federal policy.
  • Be highly visible within each of assigned facilities, so that you may have knowledge of the performance of the team in delivering quality services.
  • Responsible for resolving parent/guardian complaints in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with community agencies.
  • Communicate frequently and directly with the District Administrative team regarding potential problems or issues which require immediate attention in a proactive manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by district administration.
  • Attend School Board meetings frequently.
  • Assists with Supervisiion, oversees and manages a district secondary building program and staff associated with it.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
