About The Position

The Elementary School Assistant Principal supports the Principal in the administration and supervision of the school. This role involves overseeing daily school operations, managing staff, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The Assistant Principal assists in implementing instructional programs, fostering a positive school culture, and addressing student behavior and discipline issues. This position requires collaboration with teachers, parents, and the community to support student achievement and school improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision, PreK-12.
  • A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary school level.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to drive instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
  • Proficiency in managing school operations.
  • Understanding of educational laws, policies, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal in developing and implementing school policies, programs, and schedules.
  • Supervise and evaluate teaching and support staff.
  • Support the development and implementation of instructional programs to meet student needs.
  • Manage student behavior and discipline, including conflict resolution and intervention strategies.
  • Oversee student attendance and ensure compliance with state attendance laws.
  • Coordinate and supervise extracurricular activities and school events.
  • Collaborate with teachers to analyze student performance data and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Facilitate communication between the school, parents, and the community.
  • Ensure a safe and orderly school environment by conducting regular safety drills and monitoring school facilities.
  • Assist in the development and management of the school budget and resources.
  • Support the collaborative development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the school's Plan for Continuous Improvement.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local mandates related to testing programs and special education services.
  • Serve as Principal in the absence of the regular Principal.
  • Identify the special needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school system specialists as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
