Responsible directly to the principal or designee. Shapes and directs students’ activities so that they have opportunities to engage meaningfully in class. Teaches knowledge and skills for art instruction and current curriculum in art, media, and processes including crafts, drawing, painting, sculpture ceramics, mixed media, printmaking, and computer graphics to students. Uses works of art to teach art content including art history, aesthetics, criticism, and visual culture. Provides differentiated instruction based on the needs and interests of a diverse population with varying intellectual and artistic abilities. Uses art vocabulary and has it visible in the room. Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, to ensure safe use, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection. Establishes and maintains standards, rules, procedures, and routines that govern student behavior, support learning, and ensure a safe learning environment. Communicates with colleagues, parents, administrators, and community members to explain art programs and goals. Plans and prepares (or assists students in preparing) artwork for art displays and exhibitions designed to showcase students’ work for the school and community according to NPS guidelines. Works within a supply budget. Maintains required financial records and uses appropriate procedures for spending funds. Models and demonstrates techniques and skills in drawing, painting, and other art media. Supervises students’ in- and out-of class activities during the assigned workday.
