About The Position

The Electrophysiology Technologist is responsible for preparing patients for invasive procedures and assisting the physician during diagnostic catheterizations, PTCA, or electrophysiology studies. This role rotates through all aspects of the laboratory, providing clinical support for various cardiac interventional and electrophysiology procedures. The technologist also performs duties of a scrub assistant, maintains a sterile field, assists the RN in patient care, ensures safety standards are met, operates imaging equipment, performs quality assurance, monitors patients and pressures, and maintains a clean work environment. Additionally, the role involves instructing students and residents, maintaining patient confidentiality, and demonstrating compliance with hospital policies and values.

Requirements

  • Completion of registered X-Ray Technologist or Cardiovascular Technologist program (RCES or RCIS).
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree with training in Cardiovascular technology.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience required.
  • BLS and ACLS within one year of hire.

  • Register Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing clinical for electrophysiology procedures including, but not limited to Pacemaker and defibrillator implants, EP studies, ablations, and loops recorders.
  • Providing clinical for cardiac interventional procedures including, but not limited to Diagnostic Catheterization, Balloon Angioplasty, Peripheral Vascular Angioplasty, Rotational and Directional atherectomy, Stent Placement, Cardiac Structural Interventions (TAVR, EVAR. Mitral Clip, and Watchman), as well as electro-physiology procedures.
  • Performing duties of a scrub assistant during a procedure, including controlling and manipulating guide wires and diagnostic catheters, and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Assisting RN in provision of safe and effective patient care.
  • Ensuring proper safety standards are met for compliance with departmental policies, radiation safety standards, and joint commission regulations.
  • Operating required imaging equipment using established guidelines and imaging protocols.
  • Implementing daily and weekly QA and maintenance procedures on all specified cardiac Cath equipment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring the patient throughout the interventional procedure.
  • Monitoring and recording intracardiac and intravascular pressures.
  • Anticipating the activities of each existing Electrophysiology and/or Cath lab and keeping the schedule flowing consistently.
  • Maintaining proper customer services with all areas that interact with laboratory.
  • Keeping a neat and clean work environment.
  • Instructing students and residents and performing preceptor duties when necessary.
  • Demonstrating skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Consistently using two patient identifiers.
  • Completing all mandatory education.
  • Performing other related duties as required.
