Electrophysiologist Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA)
About The Position
Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) specializing in Electrophysiology Syncope and Autonomic Disorders to join their team. This is a full-time position. The Specialty Advanced Practice Provider will exercise independent judgment in assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with syncope, adhering to Virginia's licensure regulations and established Scope of Practice and Protocol. The role involves respecting other clinical disciplines and utilizing a team-based approach for optimal patient outcomes. Care delivery will be guided by evidence-based standards, guidelines, and protocols, with participation in quality improvement initiatives. The position requires performing high-quality clinical practice and effective patient management under physician supervision in outpatient cardiology and electrophysiology settings. The Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider exercises independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice and Protocol. Demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated team-based approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizes evidenced based standards, guidelines and protocols for care delivery. Participates in quality and best practice initiatives by utilizing standards and guidelines for cost effective care delivery to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes. Performs high-quality clinical practices and effective patient management under physician supervision by following state regulations, including primary and secondary specialty care in clinical and surgical practice settings. The APP Lead is charged with optimizing daily function of and care delivery provided by Apps. The role serves as the direct supervisor for front-line APP providers in a Service Line.
Requirements
- Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
- If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on State of primary residence)
- License (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s)
- Written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician
- "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)
- Basic Life Support upon start
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start
- For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing
- For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

Responsibilities
- Practices in accordance with safe and effective standards of care and ensures compliance with professional and ethical standards of practice
- Communicates appropriately with physicians, peers, nursing staff and other healthcare providers
- Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Interprets and synthesizes laboratory, imaging and other pertinent data. Reviews patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and family
- Evaluates and documents patients' response to care, and evaluates impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establishes a health promotion strategy
- Assumes clinical management for the acute care patient population in collaboration with physicians in practice
- Provides accurate record keeping as evidenced by complete and pertinent history and physicals, pre-operative progress notes, discharge summaries and data information sheets
- Serves as a role model and preceptor for new Advanced Practice Providers and students
- Assists physicians in the care management of patients during emergencies
- Participates in and supports the departmental, hospital and system-wide quality performance improvement initiatives
- Supports departmental cost savings strategies and provides care in an efficient and cost conscious manner
- Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrates evidence-based research findings into clinical practice
- Participates in clinical research/data collection and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty
- Provides clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge
- Proactively assists peers with work tasks
- May perform additional duties as assigned
