About The Position

This position is for an Electronics Technician who fosters a humane and secure environment and ensures public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. The role involves maintaining the physical security of the institution through the installation, maintenance, and repair of various electronic systems. These systems are critical to the physical security of the institution, preserving the safety and well-being of staff and the inmate populace. The technician will maintain, develop modifications, and ensure the reliability of the institution's electronic security and communication systems. They will also provide technical support during the preparation of drawings and specifications for electronic and telecommunication equipment as required by B&F Projects, Work Orders, etc., and conduct inspections and perform preventive maintenance as required by policy. Along with all other correctional institution employees, the incumbent is charged with the responsibility for maintaining the security of the institution. The staff's correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is Required.
  • Must meet CTAP or ICTAP eligibility criteria.
  • Must be rated well-qualified for the position, scoring at least half of the total possible points for the vacancy KSAs or competencies.
  • Must submit the appropriate documentation to support CTAP eligibility: A copy of the agency notice (i.e., separation notice or agency RIF letter), Most recent performance appraisal, and Most recent SF-50 showing current/former position, grade, promotion potential, and duty location.
  • GL-09: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree, only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
  • GL-10: No substitution of education for specialized experience.
  • GL-09 and GL-10: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.
  • Experience in the use of a variety of schematic diagrams and testing equipment to test, troubleshoot, modify, calibrate, install, maintain, repair, or construct electronic equipment.
  • Experience identifying and correcting electronic deficiencies and recommend improved procedures.
  • Experience working in programmable logic controllers, CCTV/DVR systems and fire.
  • Experience performing installation, maintenance, operation and testing duties on electronic equipment.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Experience working with PBX phone switches, trunked radio systems, and electronic fences.
  • Must upload legible transcripts as verification of educational requirement if education is a requirement/substitution for specialized experience.
  • Transcripts MUST be uploaded and electronically linked from USAJOBS at the time you apply and MUST include identifying information to include School Name, Student Name, Degree and Date Awarded (if applicable).
  • All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Maximum entry age of 36 has been established for original appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution (unless exempt by prior federal law enforcement coverage).
  • Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a pre-employment and panel interview, urinalysis, physical, and background investigation.
  • All applicants are subject to, and must satisfactorily pass all screening requirements in relation to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit check.
  • All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm.
  • Successful completion of the "Introduction to Correctional Techniques", three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required.

Responsibilities
