About The Position

This role involves preparing designs and specifications for complex equipment or systems, developing or reviewing designs by analyzing engineering data, and conducting tests or experiments. The technician will also apply methods to research and development projects, construct prototype models, and coordinate test set-ups. The position requires the use of untried measurement techniques and improving equipment performance.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship and Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Associate degree in engineering technology, math, or science; or Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications.
  • Six (6) years of recent and relevant experience in a position related role.
  • Four (4) years of experience in installation of hardware and/or equipment.
  • One (1) year of experience in design, preparation, and modification of engineering documents and drawings. Experience may be concurrent.

Nice To Haves

  • A High School diploma or GED credential and three (3) years of recent and relevant experience related to the labor category description may be substituted for an AS or AA degree. These three (3) years of experience are in addition to the required minimum of six (6) years to meet the “Experience” requirements below, requiring a total of nine (9) years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs and specifications for various complex equipment or systems (e.g., a heating system in an office building, or new electronic components such as solid-state devices for instrumentation equipment).
  • Develop or review designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data and applying conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists.
  • Conduct tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures; preparing and operating equipment; recording data; and measuring and recording problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level and analyzes data and prepares test reports.
  • Apply methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects, constructing experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducting tests or experiments; developing/implementing redesigns as necessary; and recording and evaluating data and reports findings.
  • Design and coordinate test set-ups and experiments to prove or disprove the feasibility of preliminary design.
  • Use untried and untested measurement techniques; and improves the performance of the equipment.
