About The Position

This is a 12-month, non-exempt position with Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) that falls under the AFSCME Scale, UA Grade 14-15. The role involves the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of life safety, public address, intrusion, and access control systems for commercial applications. The technician will also be responsible for performing new system installations, upgrades, and additions, conducting system testing, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes. The position requires effective communication with staff and faculty, adherence to CCPS policies, and the ability to respond to emergency situations. The technician will operate and maintain service vehicles and use technology for work orders and timekeeping.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the installation and maintenance of life safety systems, public address systems, and intrusion systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Proficient in life safety systems, public address systems, and intrusion systems for commercial applications.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Valid Maryland Class C driver’s license and clean driving record, insurable by Charles County Public School System.
  • Willingness to complete additional training as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with staff and faculty.
  • Competence in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Degree from an accredited technical school/college.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain life safety, public address, intrusion, and access control systems.
  • Maintain a library of technical manuals and appropriate supplies/tools.
  • Perform new system installations, upgrades, and additions.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of equipment application, compatibility, mounting techniques, and testing.
  • Provide training on system operation and functionality.
  • Conduct system testing, signal verification, and basic system design.
  • Understand and enforce local/national codes for life safety, public address, intrusion, and access control systems.
  • Adhere to and enforce all CCPS policies and procedures.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Operate and maintain service vehicles (trucks and vans) and tow equipment trailers.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with CCBOE staff.
  • Follow safe work practices and ensure the safety of others.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts (ex. step, extension, man, scissor, aerial boom, bucket trucks).
  • Use smartphones, tablets, and laptops for work orders and timekeeping.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman.
