About The Position

Join our maintenance team as an Electronics System Technician, also known at LYNX as a Technician B, and put your troubleshooting and repair skills to work on the technology that keeps our transit system moving. In this hands-on role, you will inspect, diagnose, test, maintain, and repair a variety of electronic systems and components used on LYNX buses and support vehicles. You'll work with systems such as digital surveillance equipment, destination signs, two-way radios, APC, PLC, CAD/AVL, fare collection systems, and other onboard electronic and electrical-control systems. Using diagnostics and testing equipment, you'll identify system failures, perform repairs and adjustments, and help ensure equipment operates safely and reliably. This is a great opportunity for an electronics technician who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, problem-solving, and working with a variety of electronic technologies in a fast-paced transit environment. This position is considered safety-sensitive and subject to the provisions of the Substance Abuse Program Policy for Safety Sensitive Positions.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED plus two years’ experience in the electronic repair field plus one year of technical school training in electronics plus one year of bench testing experience on the following equipment: Fare Collections Systems, Digital Surveillance Systems, Destination Sign Systems, and Two-way Radio Communications Systems.
An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to effectively perform the functions of this position may be considered.
Ability to possess a Florida CDL permit, Class “B” with passenger endorsement and airbrakes prior to hire.
Must successfully pass the LYNX CDL training program and obtain your Florida CDL license after hire.
Knowledge of electronics to perform inspections, diagnosis, removal and repair of equipment and systems.
Knowledge of testing and repairing of electronic subcomponents including, but not limited to: Fare Collection System - bill transport and validator; coin validator; trim/ticket printer assembly; mother board/controller board; trim; cash box: smart card reader; OCU. Surveillance System – cameras assemblies; IR modules; hard drive testing. Destination Signs – power supplies; processor/controller boards; flip dot controller board; OUC. Two-way Radio System – installation and testing of radio equipment. Talking bus – Installation and testing of stand-alone and ITS talking bus components.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to drive buses, trucks, non-revenue vehicles and equipment into the shop, line and yard.
Ability to physically bend, stoop, walk, kneel, stretch and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
Ability to work as a team player.
Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work with commercial cleaners and toxic materials.
Ability to work in open bays, inside buses and inside test and repair room.
Ability to provide own basic tool set and possess all required tools on tool list by the end of probationary period.

Nice To Haves

A degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

Tests, evaluates and repairs electronics for GFI, Digital Surveillance Systems, destination signs, two-way radios and other electronic systems on board revenue buses and support vehicles.
Completes scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance on select electronic systems, subassemblies and control devices on transit coaches and support vehicles for safe operation.
Inspects, diagnoses, removes and repairs electronic systems, equipment and devices.
Applies electrical theory and related knowledge to test and repair operational electrical and electrical-controlled equipment and circuitry.
Adjusts, calibrates, aligns and modifies circuitry and components, and records effects on unit performance.
Assists higher grade technicians with Talking Bus program set up and changes.
Determines the source of trouble. Analyzes and interprets test data.
Records periodic electrical testing and recommends repairs or replacement of equipment that fails to meet acceptable operational standards.
Repairs or replaces defective parts or makes changes as instructed.
Uses testing equipment (meters, oscilloscopes, test bench and mock-up).
Refers difficult or unusual problems to higher-grade technicians for guidance or repair.
Works with lower-grade technicians on difficult or unusual problems.
Executes field repairs on road failures as needed.
Sets up standard test apparatus or devices, test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental and live test to evaluate performance and reliability of production models.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
