About The Position

This position is an Electronics Specialist II for the Colorado Department of Corrections located in Trinidad, CO. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing technical expertise in the electronics field; maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic hardware and software within the facility and ensuring compliant and secure installation and operation of electronic systems. Position promotes the Colorado Department of Corrections Mission, Vision and Values while adhering to a high level of integrity, commitment and providing excellent customer service. Position follows applicable codes and regulations, trade practices and manufacturer's specifications in the design, installation, upgrades, maintenance and monitoring of all facility electronic device systems services to include security control network, business LAN fiber, wiring and switches, fire protection system, Vindicator UHS transponder system, card access system, security video system (both analog and digital), camera/monitor switch matrix, security x-ray scanner, and video imaging system. Position provides technical expertise in the electronics field and to ensure staff is trained and qualified to preserve the physical plant electronics capabilities. Ensure security and integrity of all low voltage security systems, fire alarm systems, non lethal electric fence controls, man down systems, closed circuit cameras and intercoms, including wiring, conductors, conduits, circuits, panels, and circuit boards in the physical plant. Ensure all applicable rules, regulations and codes are observed and adhered to on all projects. Position analyzes HVAC, security controls, security video systems, security LAN, NLEF, microwave detection systems, man down systems, cable television system and fire protection systems in order to identify and correct programming and installation errors; collaborates with the Office of Information Technology, Communications, Canteen Services, Colorado Inmate Phone System (CIPS), as well as other maintenance and trades to ensure effective completion of projects and the efficient use of resources. Position researches manufacturer's data, industrial standards, agency regulations and policy, facility operational memorandums and equipment history to design and implement preventive maintenance program for electronic equipment, while remaining within budget. Position ensures safety and security with the proper use, care and control of tools and keys and observing Administrative Regulations, Operational Memorandum, and other agency and facility policy while performing maintenance and repair tasks; participates in offender shakedowns, counts, oversight, and restraint, as required.

Requirements

• Two (2) years of employment experience installing, repairing, maintaining, modifying, calibrating, certifying, and/or fabricating electronic equipment.
• College or University course work in a related field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability.
• Sound judgment and decision making skills.
• Proficiency in the operations of security systems, fire alarm systems, digital/analog cameras, and digital video recorders (DVR's), intercom systems, call systems, in addition to a variety of other electronic devices/systems.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform electronics preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance processes and ability to effectively use relevant equipment & tools.
• Ability to plan and implement an electronics project from start to finish.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively cooperate with other staff and inmates and inspire teamwork.
• Ability to effectively respond to emergency situations (such as fights, fires, medical emergencies and escapes).
• Ability to pay special attention to detail.
• Self-control, a strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations.

• Must be 21 years of age.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Have NO felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609.
• Applicants must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of application.
• Successfully pass all modules of the six-week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics.
• Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics.
• Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security.
• Successfully complete a background investigation is required.
