The Electronics Service Journeyman is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, programming, and maintaining electronic signs, LED display systems, lighting systems, and related electrical equipment. This role combines hands-on field service work with advanced electronic diagnostics and repair of electronic components and circuit boards. The position supports both customer-facing service operations and in-shop electronic repair functions while ensuring high-quality workmanship, accurate troubleshooting, and reliable sign performance. As an Electronics Service Journeyman, your day may include troubleshooting LED display issues, repairing electronic components, programming sign systems, and responding to field service calls. You may work from a service vehicle, job site, or electronics workbench depending on the needs of the day. Responsibilities may include operating lift equipment, diagnosing electrical and electronic failures, testing circuit boards, reading schematics, coordinating repairs, and communicating with customers and internal teams. This role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, adaptability, and professional communication skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Strong knowledge of electronics theory, electrical systems, digital systems, and logical troubleshooting methods
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Experience using electronic testing equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, test, and program electronic components, LED systems, power supplies, and display equipment
  • Adequate computer and technology skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Windows-based systems, internet navigation, and the ability to learn software and programming platforms
  • Ability to learn and effectively use internal company systems such as NetSuite, Workday, and other business software tools
  • Great communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and team members
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid medical card if required
  • Ability to lift and move materials and equipment up to 75 pounds and work outdoors, at heights, and in varying weather conditions
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and perform a variety of tasks as needed
  • Applicants must pass a pre-hire drug test

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Electronics or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electronic sign service, electronics repair, electrical troubleshooting, or related technical field preferred
  • CDL Class A or B strongly preferred
  • CDL preferred or willingness and ability to obtain one if needed

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, program, and maintain electronic message centers, LED displays, lighting systems, and related electrical equipment
  • Diagnose electrical and electronic system failures using schematics, testing equipment, and logical troubleshooting methods
  • Test, calibrate, repair, and program electronic components, circuit boards, power supplies, and display systems
  • Operate lift equipment and service vehicles to safely access, service, and maintain signage and equipment
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and repair documentation
  • Communicate professionally with customers and internal teams regarding service needs, project updates, and repairs
  • Maintain service vehicles, tools, inventory, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
  • Support shop and field operations, including electronic assembly, wiring, installation, preventative maintenance, and emergency service calls as needed
  • Assist with training and supporting less experienced technicians and apprentices
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor or management, as needed to meet business needs
