About the job you’re considering The primary responsibilities include installing electrical subsystems on small robots and other ground-based vehicles and coordinating installations under the direction of other electrical and mechanical engineers. Installations include building and testing wiring harnesses based on design documents, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying electrical wiring where necessary and applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, and electronic and electrical testing. May be required to do some: lay out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems, such as computer equipment, test equipment, and machine tool numerical controls, applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, and physics. Usually work under direction of manager and engineering staff, with moderate supervision. Responsible for maintenance of electrical systems and equipment. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Your role Assembles and tests experimental wiring harnesses, electronic modules, and other electrical equipment and components. Modifies electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under direction of Electrical Engineers. Diagnoses cause of electrical or mechanical malfunctions or failures of operational equipment and performs preventive and corrective maintenance. Works from wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion and performs routine installation and maintenance duties. Adjust and replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry and electronics components, using hand tools and soldering iron. Test electronics units, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment. Plan, completes, and records periodic electrical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards. Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems. Maintain working knowledge of state-of-the-art tools or software by reading or attending conferences, workshops or other training.

Requirements

  • Associate or certificate program in an Electrical Tech or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2-6 years' experience with electronic test equipment including Oscilloscope, multi-meter, and various power supplies
  • Experience with a CAD/Circuit designs
  • Proficient at building and testing harnesses according to IPC/WHMA-A-620
  • Knowledge of electronics wire routings
  • Experience with basic office software including word processing, spreadsheet, Outlook and calendaring
  • Basic mechanical assembly knowledge
  • Experience using hand tools
