The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Lead the design and development of next-generation electromechanical systems for cable preparation and installation platforms. Design analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits, including sensor signal conditioning and data-acquisition front ends. Design power electronics and power-distribution circuits, including motor-drive, DC-DC and protection circuitry. Integrate embedded processors/microcontrollers, connectivity and industrial I/O (e.g., EtherCAT) into board-level designs. Select and specify electronic components, balance performance, cost, availability, and manufacturability. Build, bring up and debug prototypes using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DAQ), iterating toward reliable field-ready hardware. Create schematic designs and multilayer PCB layouts for control, power, sensor-interface and communication boards. Design for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI), signal integrity and power integrity, and support regulatory compliance (CE, UL, FCC). Interact with regulatory teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Develop hardware documentation, including schematics, BOMs, fabrication/assembly packages, and design records. Collaborate closely with firmware, software, mechanical and systems engineers, and with manufacturing, suppliers, contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators, to scale designs into production. Drive product architecture, feasibility studies, prototyping, and engineering verification activities. Generate intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets. Communicate tests and other program results to internal and external stakeholders. Drive the development and commercialization of products to efficiently, reliably and sustainably deliver energy to customers around the world.
