Electronics Engineer

SAIC•North Charleston, SC
•Onsite

About The Position

SAIC is seeking an Electronics Engineer to work at a customer site in North Charleston, South Carolina. The role focuses on developing electrical and power-distribution architectures for distributed maritime sensors and complex, low-SWaP IoT systems. This includes integrating voltage-level negotiation for subsystems, incorporating renewable energy technologies to improve system persistence, analyzing power budgets, and designing signal and power PCBs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of experience, or four additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience programming microcontrollers to monitor system status and implement control systems that toggle power among subsystems or components, using C++, microPython, circuitPython, or standard Python.
  • Experience developing DC power-distribution architectures.
  • IoT experience with low-SWaP sensors and systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance; no clearance is required to start.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of renewable energy and integrating different technologies to improve system performance.
  • Familiarity with marine connectors and electrical systems in highly corrosive environments.
  • Experience developing system-level electrical architecture with minimal oversight.
  • Knowledge of standard RF principles.
  • Familiarity with UART, I2C, RS232, RS485, USB, and Ethernet protocols.
  • Experience designing PCBs for DC power distribution in small, distributed IoT systems incorporating microcontroller-based power toggling, renewable energy, and modular design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a modular power-distribution architecture for distributed maritime sensors.
  • Integrate voltage-level negotiation for subsystems, similar to USB-C Power Delivery.
  • Incorporate renewable energy solutions, such as wave harnessing, solar, and Peltier, into system architecture to improve persistence.
  • Perform power-budget analysis to inform power-system design and support sensing, communication, and edge-processing operations of complex systems.
  • Develop signal and power PCB designs using best practices for trace routing, thermal management, signal isolation, and grounding.
