About The Position

The Otis Service Center (OSC) Electronics Shop is looking for an Electronic Technician. The Electronic Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and functionality of printed circuit boards used in electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing printed circuit boards down to the component level, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools per Electrical Engineering Instructions. Working closely with the Electrical Engineering teams, the technician will support both legacy and new product introductions by identifying failure trends, implementing corrective actions and update internal tracking database with status of repair on schedule that meet customers’ expectations. This role requires a strong technical background in electronics, hands-on experience with SMT rework to IPC standards, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic electrical and electronic theory including AC/DC theory, motor controls, solid state, and semi-conductor circuit theory.
  • Strong ability to interpret PCB schematics, assembly drawings, test procedures, and work instructions.
  • Proficient in electronic circuit troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise in SMT rework and repair to IPC standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, and capability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Associate’s degree in Electronics (A.S.E.E.) and a minimum of 2 years’ experience troubleshooting microprocessor-controlled circuits to the component level or 10 years of equivalent hands-on experience in a similar role.
  • IPC Certification is required.
  • Must be very familiar with the working modes of power components such as power transistors, diodes, IGBTs and ICs.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in electronic technology or equivalent, or 3-5 years of electronic technician work experience and/or specialized training.
  • BS in Electronics Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Determine repair requirements to bring material back to like new condition.
  • Replace defective components and those required as preventative maintenance.
  • Disassembly, repair, and re-assembly of various components.
  • Completion of repair and test reports for all repaired products.
  • Perform software programming of IC’s, PLCs, Electro-mechanical assemblies and Circuit Boards
  • Follow documented test procedures and schematics to repair or replace components.
  • Required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, as required.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Support the transition of new products into production in coordination with engineering teams.
