Electronic Technician

SAIC•Lawrence, IN

About The Position

SAIC is seeking an Electronic Technician to support the U.S. Navy in Indianapolis, Indiana. The role supports engineering activities involving the design, testing, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices, and specialized test equipment. Applications may involve electronic circuits, photonics, and logic systems. The technician works from schematics, diagrams, descriptions, layouts, and defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting, and assists in determining remedies for malfunctions. The role also involves maintaining and analyzing technical data, preparing engineering documentation and drawings, performing mathematical calculations to engineering specifications, and conducting analyses where guidelines are provided. The technician assembles, disassembles, reworks, and repairs surface-mount and through-hole printed circuit card assemblies, flex circuits, subassemblies, and electromechanical assemblies. Work includes preparing boards and components, handling sensitive components, soldering and desoldering fine-pitch components including BGA rework, and modifying, upgrading, or replacing components on complex PCBs. The technician interprets production routings and wiring diagrams, may assemble and equip cabinets or chassis, performs informal in-process checks before formal inspection or testing, and collects and analyzes Statistical Process Control (SPC) data. The position requires an associate degree in a related discipline and three years of experience, with additional experience accepted in lieu of a degree. Six years of practical experience is also specified, with electronics repair, maintenance, and testing experience preferred. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain a Secret security clearance. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds and potentially sitting, standing, kneeling, or squatting for extended periods. The work may involve exposure to solvents, flux, thinners, and other cleaning compounds, and requires visual aids and personal safety equipment.
