About The Position

This position is responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of highly sophisticated instrumentation and remote data acquisition telemetry. The role involves performing installation, repair, maintenance, and routine calibration for instrumentation and controls used in water/wastewater treatment and flow measurement, including telemetry. The technician will respond to critical equipment failures, maintain and calibrate test equipment, update repair procedures, and analyze job requirements for materials, labor, and expertise. They will utilize technical manuals, engineering drawings, and one-line diagrams, and maintain records of work performed. Additionally, the role includes maintaining and calibrating safety equipment, making recommendations for spare parts and equipment purchases, and assisting in drafting bid specifications. This position also directly supervises other Electronic Technicians, providing training, scheduling, and performance evaluation, and may perform duties of the Chief Electronic Technician. Essential personnel are required to report to work during emergencies, as the plant's safe operation depends on sufficient personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and sixty college credit hours preferred or equivalent technical education.
  • Four years of related experience in the repair and maintenance of sophisticated electronic equipment preferred.
  • Must have the ability to calculate mathematical equations.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of A.C., D.C. analog and digital electronics and a reasonable understanding of industrial instrumentation process control.
  • Must have knowledge to support, operate, and maintain (including configuration and troubleshooting) multiple proprietary flow instrumentation and remote telemetry units.
  • Maintain a sufficient level of knowledge of operating systems and widely used application software to provide the appropriate levels of operation and support.
  • Must possess excellent knowledge of the state and federal confined space entry regulations and the proper use and upkeep of pertinent safety equipment.
  • Ability to calculate mathematical formulas.
  • Ability to read and apply information from operation and maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints, and safety data sheets.
  • Requires a high degree of mental attentiveness, patience and persistence with a high degree of concentration, and good oral and written skills.
  • Requires good recordkeeping and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in electronics or the completion of a two-year trade school preferred.
  • Approved training courses in electronics preferred.
  • State of Texas Journeyman electrical license preferred.
  • Current Class II Collection System if working in Collection System or Class C or Operator license (Class C Water Operator license for water plant) as issued by the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality or the ability to obtain one within two years from date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs installation, repair, maintenance and routine calibration for instrumentation and controls utilized in the operation and monitoring of water/wastewater treatment and flow measurement including telemetry.
  • Responds to critical equipment failures when required.
  • Maintains and calibrates in-shop and repair, and test equipment.
  • Updates repair procedures as required. Analyzes job requirements, i.e. material, labor and expertise as needed.
  • Ability to use technical manuals, engineering drawings and one-line diagrams.
  • Monitors and maintains records of work performed. Assists in the maintenance of files and records of electronic equipment and work order management systems.
  • Maintains and calibrates safety equipment, including confined space entry equipment, arc flash and personal protective equipment. Performs all duties while observing safety guidelines and security measures as established by the Authority.
  • Makes recommendations concerning spare parts inventory and electronic equipment to be purchased.
  • Assists in drafting bid specifications.
  • Directly supervises one or more Electronic Technicians to include training, scheduling and performance evaluation. Assists Electronic Technicians as required on more complicated jobs.
  • May perform duties of the Chief Electronic Technician as required.
  • Essential personnel are required to report to work when scheduled during departmental and/or emergency situations including, but not limited to, extended periods of inclement weather when travel may be difficult. This position is essential because, on the absence of sufficient personnel, the plant cannot operate safely.
