Purpose: Tests and calibrates electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards, and assists in formulating calibration standards. Adheres to environmental policy, procedures, and supports department environmental objectives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Technical Degree in Industrial Instrumentation, Electronics or another related field and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in calibration/instrumentation is required; or a Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field such as Industrial Instrumentation, Electronics, or another related field and one (3) year of experience in calibration/instrumentation is required.
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) fluency is required.
  • Availability to work overtime, various work schedules, which include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts, including weekends and holidays is required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans sequence of testing and calibration procedures for instruments and equipment.
  • Coordinates calibration schedules with equipment owners.
  • Develops and updates calibration procedures for equipment and instruments to be included in the calibration program.
  • Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate and calibrate other instruments and test equipment.
  • Disassembles instruments and equipment, using hand-tools and inspects components for defects.
  • Measures parts for conformity with specifications, using micrometers, calipers and other precision instruments.
  • Aligns and balances component parts and circuitry.
  • Keeps the calibration computer system updated regarding instruments status.
  • Files and records all calibration records.
  • Contacts external calibration laboratories to make the necessary arrangements to comply with the requirements under the calibration records.
  • Assists in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans, and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording and indicating instruments and equipment.
  • Generates and submits the purchase order/documentation required to process/coordinate external calibration services as required per policies.
  • Performs equipment performance profiles, i.e. temperature profiles and generates reports.
  • Ensures proper utilization of computerized maintenance management system for work orders and preventive maintenance entries and closures.
  • Trains lower level technicians on safe work habits in handling of equipment, tools, chemicals and use of protective equipment.
