About The Position

Electronic Control Technicians (ECTs) are PLC technicians responsible for all factory electrical, electronic, and equipment controls, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and production efficiency. ECTs modify, troubleshoot, and repair production electronic components including machine controls, robots, HMIs, PLCs, motors, drives, and communication equipment. They must apply safety standards, interpret electrical circuits, read/edit PLC ladder logic, modify CAD electrical/mechanical drawings, and be proficient with Windows OS. ECTs collaborate with operators to diagnose issues, support preventive maintenance, train operators, and process work orders. They also troubleshoot specialized equipment such as X-rays, AGVs, and vendor-specific controls.

Requirements

  • 2-year Electrical Technician degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong electrical design and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in: RS Linx, RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, FactoryTalk View, DeviceNet, EtherNet, Data Highway, Microsoft Windows, LOTO, 480V troubleshooting, electrical symbols/prints, NFPA 70e.
  • Good hearing and eyesight; must distinguish wire colors.

Responsibilities

  • Install/troubleshoot electrical & electromechanical components (motors, VFDs, sensors, relays).
  • Maintain automation software, documentation, PLC programs, CAD files.
  • Maintain instrumentation program: install, calibrate, update documentation.
  • Perform control system troubleshooting; communicate project/backlog/safety updates.
  • Perform electrical & safety compliance checks.
  • Collaborate on production line improvements.
  • Ensure NEC, OSHA, NFPA compliance.
  • Document material usage; maintain stock levels.
  • Perform PMs, repairs, adjustments.
  • Complete PM checklists & work orders.
  • Train less skilled personnel.
  • Attend required annual training.
  • Fully document program changes.
  • Make troubleshooting and PM decisions.
  • Assimilate new technologies.
  • Work closely with IT, Engineering, E&A.
  • Follow Waverly safety objectives & rules.
  • Report incidents and unsafe conditions.
  • Support environmental policy, pollution prevention, waste minimization, and energy conservation.
