About The Position

MRI Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an Electronic Component Engineer on the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center. In this role, you will serve as a Team Lead within a group of more than 50 Electronics and Electrical Engineers, reporting to the Electronics and Electrical Section Manager. You will provide Electrical, Electronic, and Electromagnetic (EEE) parts engineering support to NASA GFE Flight Projects and NASA Programs, helping ensure that the parts flying on NASA's human spaceflight hardware meet the reliability and performance demands of deep space exploration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • 10 years of related engineering experience.
  • Prior experience leading a technical team.
  • Experience interfacing with a NASA (or similar government) customer on a regular basis and coordinating team assignments and individual tasking.
  • Experience supporting design reviews and product development teams.
  • Understanding of component selection, screening, qualification, and derating for use in space flight applications.
  • Experience supporting project teams in EEE-related activities, including review and generation of procurement specifications and source control drawings (SCDs).
  • Experience assisting in the preparation, analysis, and distribution of NASA Advisories and Government Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) Alerts.
  • Experience with part selection, obsolescence review, and electrical part failure investigation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs, particularly MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Related master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of component failure modes, component reliability, and NASA component specifications and standards.
  • Knowledge of NASA space flight hardware processes.
  • Understanding of passive components, microcircuits, hybrids, semiconductors, and discrete device fabrication.
  • Prior experience with accelerated reliability testing, reliability theory, and component failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of EEE parts used in high-reliability military/DoD or space hardware, and associated U.S. military test specifications and standards.
  • Experience developing EEE parts management plans, supporting Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA), and conducting parts failure analysis.
  • Strong background in Electronic Engineering, including knowledge of EEE parts, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with product development, pre-production activity, and product life cycle.
  • Sourcing background in the electronics industry, with supply chain experience across electrical technologies and part manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a team of Electronic Component Engineers supporting several NASA projects and programs.
  • Evaluating proposed EEE parts lists against each project's hardware criticality and environments.
  • Reporting on the manufacturers, materials, construction, usage (including environmental and electrical de-rating), and overall reliability of selected parts to the EEE Parts Control Board (PCB).
  • Recommending replacement EEE parts.
  • Assisting in EEE parts failure investigations.
  • Reviewing military and industry EEE parts specifications, standards, and studies for application to NASA programs.
  • Assisting in the development of EEE part qualification plans, project-specific screening requirements, and Non-Standard Part Approval Requests (NSPARs).
  • Supporting Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA) efforts as a condition of part approval.
  • Supporting project teams in sourcing passive components (resistors, capacitors, transformers, etc.) and active components (ICs, transistors, diodes).
  • Developing part specifications and test procedures for space-level parts.
  • Providing technical assistance to contracted test labs, part manufacturers, and project teams.
  • Working in a laboratory environment as required, following standard operating procedures.
