About The Position

Performs electrodiagnostic testing, including electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), and electromyography (EMG), to obtain diagnostic data for the evaluation and diagnosis of disorders affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems. Provides high-quality patient care, ensures accurate data collection and documentation, maintains laboratory operations and equipment, and supports physicians in delivering timely and accurate diagnoses.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neurological diagnostic testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of neurology and electrodiagnostics.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot sophisticated diagnostic and medical equipment.
  • Ability to identify technical issues and implement corrective actions to ensure diagnostic quality.
  • Strong planning, organization, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and recognize significant findings requiring escalation.
  • Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and professionalism when interacting with patients experiencing varying degrees of illness or disability.

  • Proficiency with standard office equipment, personal computers, and practice management systems.

  • Associate degree in Applied Sciences, Electroneurodiagnostic Technology, or related field; or High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of two (2) years of clinical EEG and/or EMG experience.
  • Current BLS and/or CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree specializing in Electroneurodiagnostics.
  • Two (2) or more years of EEG and/or EMG experience.
  • Credentialed, board certified, registry eligible, or registry ready through an appropriate neurodiagnostic credentialing organization (e.g., ABRET, AAET, or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Performs EEG, EMG, and nerve conduction studies as ordered by physicians in accordance with established laboratory standards and protocols.
  • Greets patients, explains procedures, obtains pertinent medical history, and prepares patients appropriately for testing.
  • Assists with medication administration as needed and monitors patients throughout examinations to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Recognizes, identifies, and corrects technical issues or artifacts that may affect study quality.
  • Provides appropriate post-procedure care and patient education.
  • Performs high-quality examinations to facilitate expedited and accurate physician interpretation and diagnosis.
  • Identifies and reports significant abnormalities or urgent findings according to department protocols.
  • Generates preliminary EMG reports immediately following study completion when required.
  • Operates a variety of sophisticated diagnostic equipment including Digital EEG systems, ambulatory EEG systems, EMG machines, computers, printers, and recording devices.
  • Troubleshoots technical and equipment issues and works with contracted service technicians to ensure proper operation and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, supplies, and workspaces to support efficient clinical operations.
  • Coordinates scheduling of examinations and studies with Dent secretarial staff and referring physician offices to meet patient and provider needs.
  • Maintains accurate patient records, logs, statistics, and other required documentation.
  • Develops, maintains, and monitors quality assurance reports and departmental statistics as assigned.
  • Ensures all patient information is handled in accordance with confidentiality and privacy standards.
  • Maintains laboratory inventory, including ordering and replenishing supplies, equipment, and linens as needed.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and practices that promote a safe, effective, and quality-driven work environment.
  • Consults with department leadership and Medical Directors regarding equipment, operational, and departmental matters.
  • Participates in clinical research activities and maintains accurate research-related data when assigned.
  • Assists with education and training of residents, fellows, staff, and students in EEG and EMG procedures as directed.
  • Maintains teaching files, case studies, and educational materials as requested.
  • Participates in continuing education, in-service training, and professional development activities to maintain competency and remain current with industry standards.
  • Represents Dent Neurologic Institute by displaying a respectful, compassionate, and professional manner with patients, families, colleagues, and referral sources.
  • Interacts calmly and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of health and wellness.
  • Assists with clerical duties as needed and functions as an integral member of the healthcare team.
  • Independently gathers necessary patient information when patients are unable to communicate and utilizes available resources to support patient care.
  • Refers patients to appropriate clinical resources and administrative personnel regarding healthcare, billing, insurance, or financial-related questions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
