About The Position

We are looking for an Electron Microscope Scientist to support the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at NIAID by overseeing cryo-electron microscopy operations and supporting structural biology research. This is a full-time position located in Bethesda, MD. Provide scientific, technical, and operational oversight of the cryo-EM facility. Support structural biology research through high-quality cryo-EM data acquisition and analysis. Manage facility operations, including instrument performance, user access, and workflow optimization. Oversee operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cryo-EM instrumentation. Perform cryo-EM sample preparation, data collection, and computational analysis. Train and support users, including students, postdocs, and senior scientists. Collaborate with NIH investigators and provide guidance on experimental design. Develop and implement standardized workflows, SOPs, and best practices. Monitor project timelines, instrument usage, and overall facility performance.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of THREE (3) years of experience in cryo-electron microscopy, structural biology, or related research.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cryo-EM workflows, instrumentation, and facility operations.
  • Experience with cryo-EM data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Ability to maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot advanced microscopy instrumentation.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to support and train a diverse scientific user base.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and scientific data tools.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse.

Nice To Haves

  • Background supporting shared scientific core facilities or user-based research environments.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput cryo-EM data collection and automation tools.
  • Exposure to negative-stain EM workflows and complementary imaging techniques.
  • Ability to optimize workflows for improved throughput, reproducibility, and data quality.
  • Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.
