About The Position

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. As a Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by leading the design and development of next-generation electromechanical systems for cable preparation and installation platforms. You will design analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits, including sensor signal conditioning and data-acquisition front ends. You will also design power electronics and power-distribution circuits, including motor-drive, DC-DC and protection circuitry. Integration of embedded processors/microcontrollers, connectivity and industrial I/O (e.g., EtherCAT) into board-level designs is also a key part of this role. You will select and specify electronic components, balancing performance, cost, availability, and manufacturability. Building, bringing up and debugging prototypes using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DAQ), iterating toward reliable field-ready hardware is expected. Creating schematic designs and multilayer PCB layouts for control, power, sensor-interface and communication boards is part of the responsibilities. Designing for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI), signal integrity and power integrity, and supporting regulatory compliance (CE, UL, FCC) are also key aspects. You will interact with regulatory teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Developing hardware documentation, including schematics, BOMs, fabrication/assembly packages, and design records is required. Collaboration with firmware, software, mechanical and systems engineers, and with manufacturing, suppliers, contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators, to scale designs into production is essential. Driving product architecture, feasibility studies, prototyping, and engineering verification activities are also part of the role. Generating intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets is encouraged. Communicating tests and other program results to internal and external stakeholders is necessary. Driving the development and commercialization of products to efficiently, reliably and sustainably deliver energy to customers around the world is the ultimate goal.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering discipline completed and verified prior to start from an accredited institution.
Three (3) or more years’ experience designing electronic hardware from concept through prototype and production, with at least 3 years in hardware product development.
Three (3) or more years’ experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium, OrCAD/Cadence, or KiCad, including component selection and hardware documentation.
Three (3) or more years’ experience with analog, digital, and/or power circuit design, as well as hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation using lab instrumentation.
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or related discipline and from an accredited institution.
Experience with power electronics, motor-drive or servo-drive circuit design.
Experience with mixed-signal design, sensor interfaces, and signal conditioning.
Experience with high-speed digital design, signal integrity, and power integrity.
Experience designing for EMC/EMI compliance and regulatory certification (CE, UL, FCC).
Experience integrating embedded microcontrollers/processors and industrial fieldbus I/O (e.g., EtherCAT).
Experience with machine-vision camera, lighting or imaging-sensor electrical integration.
Experience with robotics, industrial automation equipment, or autonomous systems.
Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Reliability (DfR), and working with contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators.
