The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer role is a multifaceted position within the Functional, Systems, Research and technology department. The EMC team is responsible for ensuring the safety of aircraft against internal and external electromagnetic threats, including Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), High-Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), Low-Intensity Radiated Fields (LIRF), Lightning, and Electrostatic Charge. This role ensures that aircraft meet all associated regulatory requirements. The position involves leading complex engineering assignments related to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics, including performing detailed analyses using similarity assessments, simulation, and analytical methods. The role also supports the resolution of electromagnetic-related issues for EMC certification and sustaining activities for production and in-service aircraft. Responsibilities include defining the scope of work and EMC effort for engineering projects, planning activities and milestones, highlighting technical risks, and completing tasks according to priorities. The engineer will analyze new and/or modified system or structure designs to assess technical engineering impacts and propose EMC compliance approaches, as well as review and approve associated engineering documentation such as test procedures, test reports, and analysis reports. Verification of compliance with certification regulations is a key aspect of the role. The position also involves supporting knowledge capture initiatives, identifying and closing knowledge and skills gaps, and providing guidance to junior team members and interns. The EMC lead on projects will delegate and supervise the work of junior team members and interns, and coach, mentor, and train new employees in the EMC team. Support for the creation and updating of technical requirements for EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics is expected. The role includes providing EMC guidance and support to collaborative R&D teams (universities, industry) in solving issues related to Electromagnetics and driving activities to completion. The engineer will represent the EMC team at multidisciplinary meetings and engage with internal and external suppliers, partners, and clients. Identifying and implementing improvements to company processes and best practices is also part of the role. The position may require supporting and witnessing EMC tests in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Preparation and review of aircraft-level EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatic Discharge test procedures, overseeing testing, and generating test reports are essential. The role culminates in preparing the Certification Design Compliance Report.
