About The Position

Within the context of a client and family-centred framework and continuum-based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision and values of the organization, including commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health, the EEG/EMG Tech performs technical functions related to Diagnostic Neurophysiology. Duties include conducting various tests such as Electroencephalography (E.E.G.), Multiple Sleep Latency, Evoked Potentials, Nerve Conduction studies, Electromyography (E.M.G.) and Magnetic Evoked Potentials (M.E.P.), recording measurements, formulating technical reports for interpretation by medical staff in clinical diagnosis and performing operating room monitoring procedures, as required. Requirements

  • Graduation with a Diploma of Technology in Electroneurophysiology
  • One (1) year’s recent, related experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Certification with the Canadian Board of Registration of E.E.G. Technologists (CBRET) or certification with the American Board of Registration of EEG (ABRET)
  • Successful writing of Board of Registration of Electromyography Technologists of Canada (BRETC) certification examination or the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) or the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) examination
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based Electroneurophysiology practice related to conducting various diagnostic tests including E.E.G., Multiple Sleep Latency, Evoked Potentials, Nerve Conduction studies, EMG, and M.E.P.
  • Broad knowledge of Electroneurophysiology theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care
  • Broad knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with Electroneurophysiology equipment
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, leader, and facilitator
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in both one-on-one and in groups
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others
  • Skill in the use of equipment, and in techniques appropriate to the assessment of clients
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
