Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of EEG training program and two or more years of EEG experience.
  • Experience working with epilepsy patients.
  • Familiarity with the International 10-20 system of EEG electrode placement.
  • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within field.
  • Ability to effectively operate electroencephalographic equipment and perform EEGs.
  • Ability to read evoked responses.
  • Ability to continue to learn and grow in profession.
  • Ability to evaluate procedure in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum information in each procedure performed.
  • Ability to evaluate, synthesize, and communicate information to the attending physician.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of procedure and patient's needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team.
  • Ability to follow established departmental procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high quality electroencephalographic (EEG) testing.
  • Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
  • Performs electroencephalographic (EEG) testing according to department policy, and with a focus on patient comfort and physician’s needs.
  • Identifies and eliminates or reduces artifact contamination of the recording of the EEG and video.
  • Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting equipment in accordance with sterile procedures and standards.
  • Acquires, reviews, and presents selected data to the Neurologist.
  • Explains EEG procedure and preparation to patient and makes them as comfortable as possible.
  • Applies and fills electrodes.
  • Maintains EEG equipment and supplies.
  • Completes documentation and charges in the EMR system.
  • Monitors patient’s condition during testing.
  • Performs all aspects of EEG recordings according to departmental policy and in a professional and personalized manner.
  • Obtains and documents required medical information.
  • Responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient testing, quality control, and quality improvement.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Provides precise documentation on all recorded procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the tech’s care.
  • Addresses problems of patient as they arise and escalates to physician or management if needed.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC Sharepoint.
