About The Position

Woodard & Curran is seeking an Electro-Instrumentation and Controls Technician for their facility in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In this role, you will maintain electrical controls and associated equipment at water plants and tanks. This may involve installation, inspections, maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, calibrating, programming, modifying, upgrades, and testing of a wide variety of electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment and software related to the water treatment plant and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. You will service the SCADA system and monitors, flowmeters, pump station alarm (dialers), and security systems (CCTV) in secured locations. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, with participation in an on-call rotation as needed and availability for emergency call-outs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience with instrumentation and controls. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Good reading, math, writing, and verbal communication skills; a good scientific and mechanical aptitude; and the ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, and other equipment.
  • Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Must possess the ability to perform tasks sitting (30%), standing (60%), walking (10%).
  • May include working with hands extended above head 18 inches (10%) and 30 inches in front of body (50%), squatting or kneeling (20%), and performing administrative tasks (20%).
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license, have a safe driving record, and be able to operate vehicles with automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
  • Working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic and environmental conditions; must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, pre-placement physical and drug screen before employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrician Journeyman License or Certification in Electronics is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work around medium voltage, rotating equipment, and various hazardous chemicals.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and test industrial electrical wiring systems, fixtures, motors, generators, transformers, and other industrial electrical and/or electronic equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain switches, switch components, and transformers.
  • Test equipment for possible electrical trouble; repair industrial electrical equipment and related components.
  • Repair and replace industrial electrical and/or electronic panels, fuses, switches, and wiring.
  • Lay out, test, calibrate, and install instruments and related devices used for controlling automatic equipment for measuring flow, pressure, temperature, etc.
  • Maintain adequate records related to installation, maintenance, testing, repair, and replacement of instruments, controls, and related devices.
  • Procure parts and services as needed.
  • Assist in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • May be required to perform "stand-by duty", being available and responding to off-duty emergency call-ins to effect repairs to malfunctioning electrical, electronic and/or instrument systems.
  • Performs related work as required.
