About The Position

We are looking for a Electrified Powertrain Calibration Intern to join our team for the fall of 2026. The intern will assist with development of electrified powertrains from concept, through prototype, and to production level. The Electrified Powertrain Calibration Intern will assimilate and understand the implications of new developments, quickly responding appropriately to situations as they evolve. The role will be mentored and supported by team members on project work. This position is a paid internship and is located in Livonia, MI.

Requirements

  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, software, or automotive engineering
  • Must be available for the fall semester of 2026 and be able to work a 40-hour work week M-F
  • Strong MS Excel experience
  • Must have a minimum sophomore standing
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Willingness to travel and/or work overtime upon request
  • Basic knowledge of powertrain system operating principals and controls
  • Able to read and interpret controls algorithms presented in MATLAB, Simulink, or C-based software documentation
  • Able to read and interpret wiring schematics
  • Course or lab work using multimeter and hand tools to identify and resolve basic electrical issues
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills, a self-starter, and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Good computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on hybrid and/or electric vehicle development experience
  • Experience with high voltage systems and related safety practices
  • Electrified powertrain course work or project experience
  • Experience with ETAS INCA and/or ATI Vision calibration tools
  • Experience with Vector CANalyzer or similar, including J1939 protocol

Responsibilities

  • Participate in development and validation of electrified powertrain controls for Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) applications, Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV), and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)
  • Participate in creation of requirements for controller software to meet overall project goals.
  • Carry out bench, dynamometer, and vehicle-based electrified powertrain development.
  • Analyze various data and present to team members.
  • Support the validation and release of controls software.
  • Perform hot climate, cold climate, and high-altitude development testing to meet customer objectives.
  • Assist with calibration of all aspects of powertrain functions, including core propulsive features, diagnostics and safety, thermal systems, high voltage, and overall vehicle integration.
  • Provide positive technical contributions in a project team environment.
  • Support various dyno and/or vehicle-based research projects.
  • Collect various experimental data.
  • Work hands-on with various electrical systems and components.
