About The Position

Under general supervision, perform a variety of skilled electrical services tasks including equipment, and system repair, maintenance, testing, and installation. This role involves responding to scheduled or emergency situations, performing repairs and preventative maintenance, testing and validating results, and inspecting electrical equipment and systems. The position also requires operating vehicles and equipment, maintaining records, identifying and recommending parts purchases, and installing new or enhanced electrical services, equipment, and systems. Coordination with other trades, vendors, contractors, departments, and co-workers is essential. Depending on the area of assignment, tasks may include installation, removal, construction, welding, painting, and refurbishing. As assigned, may direct laborers/trades helpers and participate in personnel-related duties such as delegating work, reviewing/inspecting work, and training employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or higher
  • Two (2) years of experience as a journey-level electrician
  • A Texas Journey Level Electrician's License is required at the time of application.
  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by the time of appointment.
  • Some positions may require a Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
  • Positions with the Streets and Maintenance Department require a Texas Class “B” Commercial Driver's License within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Positions requiring a CDL or positions of a safety sensitive are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, replace, and troubleshoot electrical equipment.
  • Respond to scheduled or emergency situations.
  • Repair and/or provide preventative maintenance services.
  • Test and validate results.
  • Inspect electrical equipment and/or systems.
  • Operate standard or specialized vehicles and/or equipment utilized to perform duties.
  • Maintain/update files, records, reports, and logs.
  • Identify, recommend, and oversee parts purchase and inventory replacement.
  • Install new and/or enhanced electrical services, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Research and identify costs, problems, parts, supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Calculate electrical circuit requirements for present and future needs.
  • Gather materials and supplies.
  • Wire, connect, test, validate, and maintain new services or systems.
  • Coordinate electrical service needs and schedules with other trades, vendors, contractors, departments, and co-workers.
  • Perform installation, removal, construction, welding, painting, refurbishing, and/or other tasks associated with electrical installation depending on the area of assignment.
  • Direct work of others, including laborers/trades helpers in routine areas.
  • Participate in personnel-related duties including directing or recommending assignment/delegation of work, review/inspection/acceptance of work, and training/development of employees.
