About The Position

Smithfield Foods is seeking a skilled Electrician to join their maintenance team at a fast-paced pork processing plant. The role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant's electrical systems, equipment, and machinery. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems such as motors, controls, lighting, and power distribution to maintain smooth production flow. The position emphasizes following company safety protocols, including LOCKOUT/TAGOUT procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), to ensure a safe, compliant, and high-performance environment. The Electrician's skills and attention to detail will directly contribute to the success of the team and the plant.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and 2+ years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and write fluently in English to communicate and understand technical/training manuals.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift or scissor lift preferred.
  • Displays sound judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • PLC experience highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical systems like motors, control panels, lighting, wiring, and power distribution.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using schematics and blueprints to restore systems quickly.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues throughout the plant, minimizing downtime.
  • Address urgent electrical problems to maintain production flow.
  • Work on complex systems including refrigeration, lighting, power supplies, and backup generators.
  • Follow safety protocols for working with electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and regulations (OSHA, NEC).
  • Conduct safety checks on electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and plant teams to solve electrical issues and improve performance.
  • Communicate with the Maintenance Supervisor to prioritize tasks and manage repairs.
  • Maintain records of all electrical maintenance and repairs.
  • Support plant-wide electrical needs by troubleshooting and repairing machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Assist during emergencies and plant shutdowns.
  • Help install new equipment and electrical upgrades.
