About The Position

Performs a variety of skilled & semi-skilled electrical and building maintenance tasks. Activities will include electrical service installation, new circuit installation, electrical repair, preventative maintenance and inspection, generator service, assist with heating, air conditioning, as well as carpentry and plumbing repairs as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Must possess a State of Michigan Journeyman Electricians license and maintain this license during employment in the position; qualified candidates must have held and worked under a State of Michigan Journeyman Electricians License for a minimum of 3-5 years.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety code regulations and the safe use of tools, equipment and materials needed to perform tasks.
  • Reasonable knowledge of local building construction codes.
  • Considerable knowledge in the commercial electrical trades, including knowledge in high voltage.
  • Reasonable knowledge in plumbing, carpentry, and small engine repair; Installation, operation and repair of the various types of equipment involved in the operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Writing, reading, mathematical principles; proficient computer skills-Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook; exercise sound judgment and decision making in accordance with policies and procedures; ability to research and problem solve independently; knowledge of County operations and functions; ability to prioritize and time manage; handle stressful situations, provide effective and friendly customer service; support the County's mission and values; ability to think critically where necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with management, co-workers and clients; obtain and communicate accurate information; apply common sense understanding to complex instructions and respond accordingly; communicate complex ideas through graphs, charts, presentations, reports or other professional correspondence.

  • Possess a valid State of Michigan Operator’s License and maintain eligibility to drive as per the County’s vehicle policy throughout employment in this position.

Nice To Haves

  • May on occasion work alongside and direct/instruct Custodian I, II , HVAC Technician and Maintenance Workers in the course of repairs that may require instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair facility electrical systems and equipment ensuring that all electrical systems are operable and maintained in a good state of repair.
  • Read schematics, plans and blueprints.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical load centers, motors, etc.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, & correct electrical problems in the power distribution, electrical equipment, and lighting systems.
  • Installs removes, repairs, overhauls and test electrical equipment, both alternating and direct current.
  • Performs installation, removal and repair of a wide range of electrical equipment such as power circuits, lighting systems, switch gear, transformers, starters, controllers, capacitors.
  • Works to meet current electrical codes, county policy, and practices.
  • Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, & other simple electrical systems.
  • Inspects the work site to determine materials, equipment, tools and required methods to perform tasks.
  • Assist and suggest methods to reduce use within the energy management program as it pertains to electrical systems.
  • Create, and implement a preventative maintenance schedule for emergency generators.
  • Provides assistance with daily maintenance tasks including mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Provides assistance with seasonal / general operations and maintenance needs as required.
  • Work within the departments "on-call" procedure for emergency repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
