About The Position

Smithfield is seeking a skilled Electrician to join their maintenance team at a fast-paced pork processing plant. The role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant's electrical systems, equipment, and machinery. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems such as motors, controls, lighting, and power distribution to ensure continuous production. The position emphasizes safety, adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and contributing to a high-performance environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and 2+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and write fluently in English to communicate and understand technical/training manuals.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • PLC experience highly desired.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift, or scissor lift preferred.
  • Displays sound judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently with little supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical systems including motors, control panels, lighting, wiring, and power distribution.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using schematics and blueprints to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues throughout the plant.
  • Work on complex systems such as refrigeration, lighting, power supplies, and backup generators.
  • Follow all company safety protocols, including LOCKOUT/TAGOUT procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and regulations (OSHA, NEC).
  • Conduct safety checks on electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and plant teams to solve electrical issues and improve plant performance.
  • Communicate with the Maintenance Supervisor to prioritize tasks.
  • Maintain records of all electrical maintenance and repairs.
  • Support plant-wide electrical needs by troubleshooting and repairing machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Assist during emergencies and plant shutdowns.
  • Help install new equipment and electrical upgrades.
