About The Position

Smithfield is seeking a skilled Electrician to join their maintenance team at a fast-paced pork processing plant. The role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant's electrical systems, equipment, and machinery. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems such as motors, controls, lighting, and power distribution to keep production running smoothly. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and 2+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and write fluently in English to communicate and understand technical/training manuals.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • PLC experience highly desired.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift, or scissor lift preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems like motors, control panels, lighting, wiring, and power distribution.
  • Performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Troubleshooting electrical issues using schematics and blueprints to get systems back online quickly.
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical issues throughout the plant to minimize downtime and keep production flowing.
  • Responding to urgent electrical problems to ensure continuous operation.
  • Working on complex systems including refrigeration, lighting, power supplies, and backup generators.
  • Following safety protocols, including LOCKOUT/TAGOUT procedures, and adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Ensuring compliance with electrical codes and regulations (OSHA, NEC).
  • Conducting safety checks on all electrical systems.
  • Collaborating with maintenance and plant teams to solve electrical issues and improve plant performance.
  • Communicating with the Maintenance Supervisor to prioritize tasks and ensure efficient repairs.
  • Maintaining clear and timely records of all electrical maintenance and repairs.
  • Supporting plant-wide electrical needs by troubleshooting and repairing machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Assisting during emergencies and plant shutdowns.
  • Helping to install new equipment and electrical upgrades.
