About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as an Electrician at Logan Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will maintain all electrical systems at the facility, maintain electrically driven mechanical equipment and associated equipment, and supervise and guide assigned individuals in custody. In addition, they will maintain an inventory of electrical supplies. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires successful completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and four (4) years of full-time journey level electrician experience or requires eight (8) years of full-time journey level electrician experience.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires ability to work from heights (on ladders, scaffold, platforms, and lifts), stand for long periods of time, and move heavy equipment, materials, structures, and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds independently and up to 75-100 pounds with assistance.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers completion of current OSHA 10 training.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience in using the tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the electrician trade.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in reading, interpreting, and working from plans, blueprints, simple drawings, and sketches.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience in installing, designing, repairing, cabling, wiring, or electronics in high and low voltages.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience applying established national, state, and local electrical codes.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience using tools of the trade such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, and other calibration and testing equipment apparatus.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience inspecting unsafe or faulty conditions in production, transmission, and utilization of electricity.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience instructing beginners in the trade.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in supervising unskilled workers.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience instructing and/or directing trade helpers, individuals in custody, and/or unskilled workers or semi-skilled workers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains all electrical systems within the facility.
  • Maintains electrically driven mechanical equipment and associated equipment.
  • Supervises and guides assigned individuals in custody.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of electrical supplies.
  • Performs other duties as required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
