About The Position

The Electrician performs preventative and corrective maintenance in the area of responsibility, with oversight of the Chief Electrician. The Electrician communicates regularly with other departments (engine room, mechanic, electronic, subsea, drilling, marine and safety) as well as the client and other service partners when required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Solid electrical knowledge/skills through a minimum of 4 years' work experience in an industrial or offshore setting, or Certificate of education in lieu of work experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • Completion of all training and certification requirements for electrician as described in the training matrix.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all electrical equipment which includes but is not limited to: Main and Emergency Generators, Distribution (High, Medium and Low Voltage), Variable Frequency Drives (Propulsion and Drilling), Electric Motors (All motors including Propulsion Drive Motors), HVAC Systems (Electrical Part), General Lighting Systems, Galley and Laundry System.
  • Coordinates planning and execution of preventive maintenance with a minimum of six-week overview to cover current hitch and half of back-to-back hitch; maintains an updated and accurate detailed historical record of all maintenance done as well as all equipment certification documents.
  • Prioritizes maintenance tasks assigned on safety and environmental critical equipment/systems (SECE’s) as defined in VAMS.
  • Prioritizes maintenance task assigned with Assurance Activities required by Performance Standards.
  • Maintains an understanding of the relationship between the rigs safety case, identifies Major Accident Hazards, the bow tie assessment, Performance Standard (PS) documents, and PS Assurance Activity tasks in VAMS.
  • Uses VAMS system to identify equipment identified as Barriers.
  • Ensures effective barrier management through management, oversight, and prioritization of maintenance activities associated with Assurance Activates required by Performance Standards for assigned rigs.
  • Monitors Barrier conditions for assigned equipment and systems.
  • Assesses impacts to overall process safety of assigned rigs due to degraded barrier conditions.
  • Troubleshoots complex electrical systems and facilitates repairs down to the lowest replaceable unit.
  • Documents equipment historical data for the purpose of reliability analysis and planning necessary upgrades.
  • Performs periodic inventory of spare parts for systems in the area of responsibility to ensure minimal downtime, and advises the Chief Electrician of low stock levels.
  • Operates and maintains all electrical test equipment.
  • Reviews power one-line diagrams to determine proper isolation of equipment for maintenance purposes.
  • Performs electrical isolations for various departments when required.
  • Ensures sufficient spares are maintained onboard, in conjunction with the Chief Electrician and Electrical/Electronic Supervisor, for critical/safety/maintenance/operational systems; demonstrates a proactive attitude with regards to upcoming Preventive Maintenance System.
  • Maintains workshop equipment/tools to the highest safety standards.
  • Performs daily visual inspections of equipment; prevents/rectifies actual and potential malfunctions and reports potentially dangerous conditions to the Chief Electrician.
  • Informs Chief Electrician and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig.
  • Creates and supports an environment in which open communications occur between departments, clients and third parties as required.
  • Maintains integrity of installations in hazardous locations and conducts periodic inspections of same.
  • Makes electrical department weekly maintenance system entries to document work done including preventive and corrective actions.
  • Performs quarterly inspection of all portable electrical devices and tools keeping a log of inventory, color coding and equipment status.
  • Ensures order, cleanliness, and housekeeping in areas of responsibility.
  • Clearly and accurately communicates work status at end of shift and end of hitch handovers.
  • Keeps written hand-over notes to ensure efficient and accurate transfer of information.
