About The Position

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking an Electrician for its Facilities Management Admin department. UIC is a major urban public research university and one of the largest employers in Chicago. This position is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrically powered systems and equipment, including distribution systems and equipment, adhering to accepted trade procedures and techniques.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Electrician.
A minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, including apprenticeship or vocational training.
Trade experience includes installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical systems, generators, transformers, motors, other electrical/electronic controls, electrical switchboards, apparatus utilizing electricity, electrical, electronic and direct digital control systems, fire and alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic and fiber optic equipment.
Illinois Residency is required within 180 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

Minimum 5 years of experience with fire alarm installation, programming, troubleshooting and testing.
Minimum 5 years of experience with access control and security systems installations, programming and testing.
Minimum 2 years of experience working in a hospital.
Experience with TJC requirements and documentation.
Experience with computers, having a good knowledge of computer systems and software.
Experience in the design of low voltage applications.
NICET level II certification.
BICSI installer level certification.
Knowledge of NFPA 72 and NFPA 101.

Responsibilities

Repairs and maintains electrical equipment, distribution systems, controls, and signal equipment.
Inspects work sites to determine material, tool, and method requirements for repairs.
Lays out work, assembles equipment, and fabricates distribution runs.
Transports tools, materials, and equipment to the work site.
Installs new electrical work and completes small remodeling projects.
Plans, lays out, installs, and assembles materials and fixtures according to the scope of work.
Repairs, maintains, and calibrates electrically operated controls and devices, including communication devices, signal devices, fire warning and security devices, and patient care equipment at the Health Sciences Center.
Performs related duties as required within classification specifications.
