About The Position

ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking an Electrician at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. Marine transportation is furnished by a Government-provided ferry. The electrical services and plant operate continuously, providing power to island facilities, research laboratories, and ancillary facilities 24/7, 365 days a year. Maintenance and repair of units and associated equipment are performed as required by schedule or need. The role involves responding to facility outages and recovering power as applicable, troubleshooting and maintaining interior and exterior distribution systems and electrical equipment installations.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Journeyman level experience with interior and exterior systems and electrical equipment installation and maintenance.
Ability to become an active member of the PIADC Fire Brigade.

Fire experience a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution or utilization of electric energy.
Install or repair any of a variety of electrical equipment, such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems or other transmission equipment.
Respond to facility outages and recover power as applicable.
Troubleshoot and maintain interior and exterior distribution systems and electrical equipment installations.
Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Carry out housekeeping duties with minimal direction, following prescribed methods & directives.
Perform assignments that may require entry into biocontainment facilities, utility plants, a variety of storage buildings and construction sites.
Work within the containment laboratory which requires decontamination showers.
Move freely in environments that are restricted in space, unsteady or otherwise not easily accessible.
