About The Position

Under general direction, performs electrical work including the installation and repair of wiring and electrical fixtures in and around city facilities.

Requirements

• Knowledge of National Electric Code.
• Knowledge of the theory, practice, equipment, and material used in the electrical trade.
• Knowledge of the rules and standards pertaining to electrical construction and the maintenance of electrical equipment.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
• Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to carrying, climbing, kneeling, standing and writing.
• Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
• Ability to operate a variety of electrical trade equipment.
• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Frequently requires physical lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.
• Work environment varies and might involve exposure to situations that require the use of personal protective equipment.
• Periodically work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
• High school education.
• A minimum of two years experience as an electrician.
• Valid Texas Driver License, Class C.
• Possession of a current Journeyman Electrical License.

Responsibilities

• Repair building electrical switch gear, circuit breaker panels, fuse boxes and other major electrical components.
• Install conduit, wiring, junction boxes, switches, receptacles and other equipment and parts necessary to provide operational capability to city building environments.
• Perform routine inspection and repair of all electrical and mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, motors, wiring, lighting, heating, and air conditioning controls).
• Troubleshoot electrical control and motor control circuits for component failure and identify and replace failed electrical components in those circuits.
• Communicate with employees in other departments regarding malfunctioning equipment.
• Prepare materials lists and order parts from vendors in person or by telephone.
• Read and examine blueprints and wiring diagrams to determine locations of electrical components, equipment and fixtures.
• Observe function of installed equipment and detect electrical or safety hazards or need for adjustment.
