About The Position

Cumberland County is seeking a dedicated and experienced Master Licensed Electrician to join our Internal Services team. This role involves performing advanced electrical installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting work across a variety of County facilities. The position also assists with the operation and maintenance of building mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, and related systems. Additionally, this role requires rotating on-call hours to respond to outages and emergencies. This position offers the opportunity to work independently, solve complex challenges, and make a visible impact on the quality and reliability of County facilities.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited two-year college or technical school with an associate degree with course work emphasis in electrical, electronics, and/or other related maintenance trades and two (2) years of experience in maintenance or building trades work with at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have and maintain an Electrical Limited Classification (L) license.
Knowledge of the procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in the electrical maintenance trade
Knowledge of approved electrical methods, practices, code requirements, and applicable safety standards
Knowledge of occupational hazards associated with building trades and grounds maintenance work, including required safety precautions.
Knowledge of County purchasing policies and procedures
Knowledge of organizational, administrative, supervisory, and effective leadership principles
Knowledge of the procedures, materials, and equipment used in plumbing and HVAC maintenance trades
Knowledge of organizational policies, operating philosophies, and assigned functions, including the ability to remain current on changes and incorporate them into daily operations
Skill in the safe and proper use and care of hand and power tools required to perform electrical work.
Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical specifications, and related documents
Skill in exercising sound judgment and discretion when developing and implementing courses of action affecting assigned operations
Ability to assign, direct, and supervise unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance personnel
Ability to recognize and evaluate how operating policies and practices affect employee morale and performance
Ability to identify operational needs and decisively develop and implement appropriate solutions or alternatives
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, as required by assigned duties
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain productive working relationships with departmental employees, other County personnel, external organizations, and the public
Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and professionalism when interacting with others
Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and in accordance with applicable laws and County policies
Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Must obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire if the driver's license is from another state.

Responsibilities

Performs master-level electrical work throughout more than 30 County facilities
Installs electrical conduits and fittings, including measuring, cutting, and bending conduits as required
Routes and pulls wiring for electrical, telephone, computer, intercom, and alarm systems
Diagnoses and repairs electrical systems, equipment, and appliances
Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other electrical components
Tracks electrical-generation equipment and ensures testing, repairs, maintenance, and fuel levels meet established standards
Performs general to skilled plumbing work, including installing and maintaining water and sanitary fixtures and equipment
Replaces faucet washers, stems, seals, and related plumbing components; clears clogged lines and repairs toilets, overflow tubes, guide wires, and water coolers
Performs general to skilled mechanical work involving the installation and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems in County buildings and facilities
Inspects thermostats; replaces belts, bearings, motors, filters, and compressors; cleans coils; and monitors humidity and ventilation levels
Supervises an assigned maintenance team, including recruitment, onboarding, training, work assignments, and daily operational guidance
Reviews and approves employee time and leave requests and completes performance evaluations
Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with applicable industry requirements, safety practices, and County standards
Provides constructive coaching and developmental feedback to support employee growth, performance, and workplace morale
Establishes team and departmental goals that promote continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and successful performance
