About The Position

Inspect and repair roads by properly maintaining associated movable bridges in a professional, safe and cost-effective manner that meets VDOT's strategic plan goals.

Requirements

• Ability to diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Knowledge and ability to use, read and interpret complex electrical and mechanical reports.
• Knowledge of AC and DC electrical circuits, low and high voltage electrical circuits, electrical switchgear and heavy duty electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of control circuits, controls for pumps, motors and various electrical systems.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Possession of and ability to maintain Virginia DPOR issued Electrican license.
• Skill in basic computer operations.
• Skill in working with AC and DC electrical circuits, low and high voltage electrical circuits, electrical switchgear and heavy-duty electrical equipment.
• Skill in working with control circuits, controls for pumps, motors and various electrical systems.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Electronics or related field.
• Experience in electrical repairs and control circuits.
• Experience in electronic maintenance related to transportation or facility infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical equipment using electrical test equipment, prints, and diagnostic equipment.
• Isolate malfunctions, perform repairs, and fabricate and make modifications in a timely manner.
• Determine and demonstrate proper work site protection techniques.
• Ensure workplace safety by identifying hazards and making suggestions for improvement.
• Wear proper personal protection equipment.
• Maximize performance and avoid disruption to shift or activities through effective time management.
• Gain and maintain thorough knowledge of standard operating procedures and other applicable regulations.
