About The Position

The Electrical Journeyman is responsible for installation, monitoring and repairing the electrical systems of the organization.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Three years (3) combined training and experience in electrical work
  • Must be able to distinguish colors
  • Able to make and understand mathematical calculations
  • Journeyman license required which has met minimum requirements in the field (usually 8000 hours) and time in approved classroom setting (usually 700 hours)
  • Experience demonstrating successful support of a positive safety culture
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)
  • Greater than three years of experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office or Windows-based software

Responsibilities

  • Plan, layout, install, inspect, and maintain electrical wiring, conduit, fixtures, equipment, and control systems.
  • Prepare or follow sketches, diagrams, blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure proper installation, including concealed wiring before completion of walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using appropriate tools (hacksaw, pipe threader, rules, conduit benders).
  • Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by a helper as needed.
  • Splice wires by stripping insulation, twisting or soldering connections, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures, power equipment, and control apparatus using hand and power tools.
  • Install control and distribution devices such as switches, relays, circuit breakers, and panels.
  • Connect power cables to equipment and install grounding leads.
  • Diagnose electrical problems using testing instruments (ohmmeters, buzzers, oscilloscopes, etc.) and repair or replace faulty components.
  • Test circuit continuity to ensure electrical compatibility and safety.
  • Observe equipment/system functioning to identify hazards or needed adjustments, repairs, or replacements.
  • Disassemble and repair defective electrical equipment or systems.
  • Conduct IR (infrared) audits and prepare reports.
  • Collect Arc Flash data for Engineering Studies.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on electrical systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used; enter data into electronic systems as required.
  • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe work environment.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and electrical troubleshooting equipment safely and effectively.
  • Wear personal protective equipment and follow all safety procedures, policies, and regulations (including TESS and all required safety training).
  • Support and promote a positive safety culture with a safety-first mindset; comply with all safety and project rules.
  • This role is designated as a "safety-sensitive" position.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Respond promptly to emergency electrical issues and provide timely solutions.
