About The Position

This is a hands-on role where the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician will play a critical part in keeping water and wastewater infrastructure operating safely and reliably. Working at the journeyman level, the technician will troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize electrical and control systems that support essential community services. The role involves balancing both electrical and instrumentation work, requiring strong technical expertise and a proactive approach to solving problems, improving reliability, and minimizing downtime.

Requirements

  • Alberta Journeyman Electrician and Journeyman Instrument Technician certification.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a certified journeyman (water/wastewater experience is an asset)
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across electrical and control systems
  • Experience with PLCs, instrumentation, motor control centers, VFDs, and related equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Solid understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance practices
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License is required
  • 6 or fewer demerits on driver's license
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit
  • Driver Abstract may be required
  • Past infractions for unsafe driving may result in non-selection
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education)
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Red Seal and/or Master Electrician designation
  • Experience in utility, municipal, or industrial environments

Responsibilities

  • Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment
  • Troubleshooting system issues and restoring operations quickly and safely
  • Installing, testing, and commissioning electrical and control systems to code and specification
  • Supporting PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, and automated systems (including programming and configuration)
  • Interpreting drawings and updating schematics and system documentation
  • Participating in emergency callouts and standby rotation
  • Contributing to maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Supporting commissioning, QA/QC, and capital project activities
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports, and system data
  • Collaborating closely with engineers, operations teams, and contractors, bringing a strong safety mindset and commitment to operational excellence.
