About The Position

Under the direction of the CTEC principal, this role involves planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for students in Building Trades with an emphasis on the Electrical field. The instructor will create an environment conducive to student development, supervise students, and plan instruction to ensure students can safely and effectively operate equipment and tools. The program prepares students for OSHA 10 Safety credential and National Center for Construction Education and Research Core Curriculum (NCCER) certifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field of education or the equivalent in credentialing, training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of two years of industry experience in building trades with specific experience with AC+DC drives, PLC troubleshooting and wiring terminations as well as experience with circuit analysis and preventative maintenance techniques.
  • Possess or qualify for a professional license and appropriate endorsement as presented by the Virginia Department of Education.
  • Be recommended by the Division Superintendent and approved by the School Board.
  • Knowledge of school curriculum and framework, policies and effective instructional practice.
  • Thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
  • Respect confidential information and the individual’s right to privacy.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with students, colleagues, administration, parents, central office and community patrons and partners.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, technology skills, be detailed and team oriented, and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program, including the organization, accreditation, administration, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the program.
  • Model professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions within the school and within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Develop authentic, engaging, hands-on learning lessons.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of school administration.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Establish learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, requirements of Culpeper County Public Schools curriculum framework and knowledge of human growth and development.
  • Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques, which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, Culpeper County School Board policy, the Department of Labor (OSHA 10) and administrative regulation.
  • Furnish required reports within specified timelines with regard to scheduling and instructional activity as requested by the school administration.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Make provision for being available to parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
  • Develop and maintain contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend all staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required including the Career and Technical Advisory Council.
  • Participate in student CTE organizations, workshops and competitions (SkillsUSA.)
  • Take part in promoting and marketing the program to meet enrollment goals.
  • Communicate with students’ high school counselors and administration concerning academic, attendance, or discipline issues which affect a student’s learning and/or grades.
  • Stay current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline of Building Trades (Electrical Specialty.)
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency requirements including the Department of Labor and NCCER.
  • Maintain detailed lab/classroom inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal, Director of Career and Technical Education and Division Superintendent.
