About The Position

Responsible for installing, connecting, testing, and sustaining organization-wide electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including climate control, security, and communications. Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand and power tools. Repairs faulty equipment or systems and cuts and welds steel structural members, using flame-cutting and welding equipment. Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provides access for future maintenance, and avoids unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, staying compliant with local electrical codes. Also being a team player by helping with any of the facility item tasks that come up.

Responsibilities

  • Figures layout and installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows construction blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Measures, cuts, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using tools, such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by the electrician helper.
  • Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery, buzzer, and oscilloscope.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
