About The Position

As our Electrician I at Ohio State University, you will install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair utility low, medium, and high voltage electric utility plant, generation, and distribution systems under the general supervision of higher-level electricians and will report to the High Voltage Supervisor. You will: Be subject to 24-hour emergency call and perform repairs, replacements, troubleshooting, and installations of electrical systems and equipment up to 600V class Assist with preventive maintenance, upgrades, and inspections of electrical utilities equipment, including lockout/tagout procedures and test equipment usage Overhaul motors, replace bearings, operate cranes, lifts, and other equipment, and maintain electrical equipment in all ENGIE operated utility plants and systems Read and update blueprints, electrical diagrams, manuals, and schematics; make sketches, modification plans, layouts, and design circuits, Maintain records and reports Assist higher-classification electricians with installation, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of 5,000 -138,000-volt electrical distribution equipment, direct contractors, and will also perform other duties to safely and efficiently operate campus utility systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed 8,000 verifiable hours of on-the-job training towards an electrical apprenticeship; equivalent to four (4) years of electrical experience.
  • Foundational exposure to commercial or industrial electrical work, which may be gained through technical training, coursework, apprenticeship programs, internships, or hands-on experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles and terminology, with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematic wiring diagrams, and use standard testing tools such as volt-ohm-amp testers.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to use personal computer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with 15kV desired, but not required.
