About The Position

This role involves assisting journeymen in the planning, installation, testing, and repair of electrical systems. The Electrician Helper will learn to use various tools, perform minor repairs, maintain equipment, and ensure a safe work environment. The position requires active participation in safety programs, effective communication, and the ability to learn and apply knowledge of electrical codes and systems.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience working as an electrician or similar craft as a helper or a combination of work experience and training.
  • Working knowledge of the electrical craft.
  • Developing knowledge in the fabrication, installation or maintenance of electrical wiring, conduit, systems, equipment and fixtures.
  • Experience testing electrical systems with appropriate tools.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Must have all necessary tools (see Electrician helper tool list).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search).

Responsibilities

  • Learn to use appropriate hand and power tools to assist electricians in measuring, cutting, bending wire and conduit, and pulling wiring.
  • Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, and keep supplies and parts in order.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble defective electrical equipment.
  • Load, transport, unload, and furnish electricians with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Clean work area and restock supplies and materials.
  • Assist in installing all other related items in accordance with applicable plans and specifications.
  • Participate in all safety-related processes and programs, engaging with the work team to achieve zero injuries.
  • Watch for hazards and report any concerns to a supervisor or safety professional.
  • Use stop work authority if needed until a safety issue is resolved.
  • Report all accidents and near misses and participate in the investigation process.
  • Participate in pre-job work planning and safety discussions.
  • Identify and take corrective action for safety hazards.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
  • Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag out procedures.
  • Attend site-specific training and follow all outlined procedures.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform basic math calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • Listen to co-workers' suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities.
  • Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Learn to read and understand plans and specifications, including various types of diagrams and schedules.
  • Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Assist journeyman in planning, lay-out, diagram, install and/or repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
  • Learn to perform layout independently.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Notify supervision of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority as needed.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures.
  • Take corrective actions as needed and report any issues to supervision.
  • Ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and that Daily Equipment Inspections are completed if certified to operate equipment.
  • Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
