About The Position

Amsted Automotive (Transform Automotive Canada Ltd.) in London, Ontario, is seeking an Electrician Apprentice. This role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and works under the direct supervision of a Licensed Electrician (442A). The apprentice will assist in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment throughout the facility. The successful candidate must be enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of a college apprenticeship program approved by Skilled Trades Ontario, working towards their Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) as an Industrial Electrician (442A).

Requirements

  • Currently registered in an approved Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship for Industrial Electrician (442A) at the 3rd or 4th year level.
  • Valid apprenticeship registration documentation and up-to-date record book.
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of all in-school training blocks corresponding to current apprenticeship year.
  • Solid working knowledge of three-phase power distribution, motor controls, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Practical experience with PLC-based control systems and basic ladder logic interpretation.
  • Proficiency in using electrical test equipment (multimeter, megohmmeter, clamp meter, oscilloscope).
  • Familiarity with industrial automation components: sensors, servo systems, pneumatics interfacing.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and CSA electrical standards.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of documented apprenticeship hours in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment; automotive stamping or metal forming experience is an asset.
  • Hands-on experience with high-voltage (600V) systems and large-horsepower motors is preferred.
  • Experience with ABB and Fanuc Robots.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical faults on stamping presses, transfer systems, conveyors, robotics, and ancillary production equipment.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on motors, drives (AC/DC), PLCs, control panels, switchgear, and distribution systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and technical manuals.
  • Install, terminate, and test wiring, conduit, panels, and electrical components in compliance with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and applicable standards.
  • Calibrate and test sensors, transducers, encoders, and instrumentation devices.
  • Assist with PLC program monitoring, minor modifications, and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent platforms).
  • Support integration and commissioning of new automated equipment and tooling changeovers.
  • Interface with HMI systems and SCADA platforms to identify and resolve faults.
  • Work in strict compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) of Ontario, company safety policies, and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures at all times.
  • Participate in arc flash awareness and electrical safety programs.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, near misses, and equipment deficiencies promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance logs, and apprenticeship record books accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate equipment status and repair progress to supervisors and production personnel.
  • Participate in shift handover meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Maintain apprenticeship documentation and hours as required by Skilled Trades Ontario and the applicable training delivery agent.
  • Actively participate in 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
