About The Position

Under the supervision of the Electric Shop Supervisor, this role involves testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and wiring all electrical devices and circuits in the plant. The electrician will also test, dismantle, repair, and assess any electrical motor, and install cable, conduit, fittings, fixtures, wiring, and make connections for new or replacement facilities. Additionally, the role includes cleaning, maintenance, programming, bagging, and deploying CPDMs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of vocational school with emphasis on basic electricity and electronics, or equipment training in military service schools.
  • Minimum of four years on-the-job training.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Good physical condition as position may require bending, kneeling, walking, standing, climbing stairs and lifting.
  • High degree of manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Good eye/hand coordination.
  • Familiarity with MSHA safety rules.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures for plant mobile equipment.
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout policy.
  • Familiarity with confined space permit policy.
  • Familiarity with hot work policy.
  • Familiarity with emergency response plan.
  • Familiarity with arc flash/shock and burn protection.
  • Familiarity with proper containment and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents, and other environmentally sensitive materials.

Responsibilities

  • Assign daily work and projects to Electrical Department personnel.
  • Represent the Electric Department at daily maintenance meetings, daily operational closeout meetings, and weekly maintenance planning meetings.
  • Check and sign Electric Department timecards.
  • Check and sign Electric Department workplace inspection forms and create work orders for all noted safety situations.
  • Check all completed work orders.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot opacity, emission, and process monitors.
  • Inspect/test any equipment/apparatus to determine extent of damage/location/nature of repairs needed.
  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, replace, or adjust faulty parts and wiring on electrical equipment used in shops or plant.
  • Reassemble, test, adjust, insulate, and paint electrical apparatus as required, including mechanical equipment if feasible.
  • Work where and when needed as directed by plant supervisory personnel to meet plant needs.
  • Install new equipment or distribution lines.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, electrical safety, adherence to safety policies and practices.
  • Perform daily housekeeping of assigned area and daily workplace inspections (look for missing/burned out lights, open conduits/condulets, broken conduits, air leaks, oil leaks).
  • Adhere to plant storeroom policy (parts issues/returns in a timely manner).
  • Use and care for plant radios properly.
  • Be familiar with MSHA safety rules, safety procedures for plant mobile equipment, lockout/tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection.
  • Ensure proper containment and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents, and other environmentally sensitive materials.
  • Ensure quality of work performed, continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management, and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure.
