About The Position

The instructor will provide quality educational programs through sound instruction to meet the individual needs of residents/students, as well as the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements. The Electrical Technician Instructor will provide instruction and engage students in a quality, competency-based program preparing students for entry-level employment and/or post-secondary education. The selected candidate must be able to successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice-mandated training and certifications, including the three-week DJJ Basic Skills for Security located in Hanover, Virginia.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License.
  • Hold or be eligible for an electrical credential.
  • A minimum of two years of successful work experience in electrical.
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment to successfully perform the work.
  • Ability to supervise students and youth.
  • Ability to facilitate appropriate classroom management.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, or NCCER Electrician certification.
  • Experience teaching or working with at-risk youth.
  • Knowledge of DJJ and DHRM policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet DHRM established physical demands.
